Description
The Lincoln Memorial is possibly the most well-known monument in the United States. With its classical mathematical ratios and use of Doric columns, it is a neoclassical building designed by architect Henry Bacon in the style of a Greek temple. It contains a large marble statue designed by sculptor Daniel Chester French, and carved by the Piccirilli Brothers. The interior is inscribed with the Gettysburg Address, and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, and contains four murals by artist Jules Guerin depicting Liberty, Morality, Justice and Law.
