Description
Designed by William Van Allen, the Chrysler Building is probably the world’s best known work of Art Deco Architecture, a branch of Modernism also known as moderne. This style was influenced by the functionality of mass production, with touches of sculptural decoration. It was influenced by earlier modern styles such as Art Nouveau and the craft movement, as well as modern schools such as De Stijl, Cubism and Futurism. The Chrysler Building was the tallest building in the world for less than a year, when it was overtaken by the Empire State Building.
